The Smallholders Farmers Rural Radio

Picture6 (172K)We are reaching rural poor farmer listeners living in remote communities of Imo State, Nigeria with appropriate and sustainable agricultural development information in Igbo Language through The Smallholders Farmers Rural Radio. This radio designs and presents broadcast programs which enables farmers acquire agricultural and environmental management techniques, receive prompt daily market information and advertise their farm products.

Broadcast information covers techniques in crop production, livestock rearing, sustainable environmental management, local and international markets, exportation process, business skills and access to a question and answer service.

Broadcast information is derived from academic institutes, public, private and international organizations. Smallholder farmers were recruited and trained to work as radio program designers and broadcasters.

The rural radio promotes interactivity by generating feedback from small farmer listener groups.

Smallholders and their household utilizes daily broadcast information to decide what to produce, when to produce, how to produce and for whom to produce. As such boosting their farm yields and income.
